INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED FINE ARTS
FINE ARTS
BY ARYASOMAYAJULA GEETA
CLASS DETAILS
Intermediate to Advanced Levels
Age Group: 8 – 13 Years
This is the bridge between early curiosity and advanced mastery: a comprehensive, structured programme in fine art, taking students from fundamental drawing and observation skills through realistic rendering, anatomy, composition, and painting across multiple media.
This isn't a hobby or free-play art class — it's a structured, multi-year journey for students who want to genuinely grow as artists. Students progress step-by-step from fundamental drawing skills to more advanced work in pencil, acrylics, watercolours, etc., according to their age, ability, and pace of practice. Several of my current advanced students have been with me for years, and it's that steady, sustained practice that makes the difference over time.
The Essential "Pre-AP" Milestone
For parents who want to keep their children's long-term creative options open, this class serves as the essential Pre-AP (Advanced Placement) preparation track.
During high school, typically around ages 14–17, students who have followed this pathway can progress into focused preparation for the College Board’s AP Art & Design portfolio exam.
Since high school is often too late to start building a college-level portfolio from scratch, my curriculum for 8–13 year olds is intentionally structured to build the technical muscle, spatial awareness, and creative stamina required to breeze through AP Drawing, 2-D Design, or 3-D Design later on.
What Students Master in This Phase
As students grow into their analytical skills, my studio instruction shifts toward deep technical control and independent creative thinking:
Advanced Analytical Drawing: Mastering accurate proportions, perspective lines, and complex geometric structures.
Value and Form: Developing a mature understanding of light, shadow, highlights, and core values using professional shading techniques.
Introduction to Conceptual Thinking: Learning how to tell a story or explore a specific theme through an image—the exact skill required for the AP "Sustained Investigation" section.
Media Exploration: Moving beyond basic pencils into sophisticated mediums like charcoal, ink, and advanced painting compositions.
